Food
What to Eat
- Pitaroudia. Chickpea and mint fritters — a Rhodian meze staple.
- Moussaka. The Greek classic — layered aubergine, ground meat, béchamel — baked and served at every taverna.
- Melekouni. A traditional wedding treat — honey-sesame bars flavored with orange zest.
- Fresh grilled octopus. Sun-dried on the line all morning, grilled to order with olive oil and lemon.
Transportation
Getting Around
Local buses (KTEL) reach every beach + Lindos from Rhodes Town for €2–8. Renting a car opens the west coast + inland villages.
Don’t drive in Rhodes Old Town — parking is impossible. Diagoras Airport (RHO) is 20 minutes from town; taxis €25.
Where to Base Yourself
Neighborhoods
- Rhodes Old Town. A UNESCO medieval quarter inside the walls — cobblestones, gates, the Grand Master’s Palace.
- Lindos. White-cube village under an acropolis 50km south — day-trippable, and prettier for an overnight.
- Faliraki. Beach + resort strip north of the airport — family-friendly, water park, safe swim beach.
- Prasonisi. Southern tip — windsurf mecca where two seas meet across a sand isthmus.
What to Know
Safety
Very safe. Watch for pickpockets in the Old Town gate crowds and slippery cobblestones after a rain shower.
