US spring-break-priced. All-inclusive resorts $250-400/person/night; luxury properties (Solaz, One&Only) push $1500+. Airbnbs in Cabo San Lucas town are cheaper.
With Kids
Family Travel
Family-friendly resorts (Grand Solmar, Hyatt Ziva) run kids clubs. Whale watching in season is a lifetime memory. Medano Beach is the calmest swim beach in Cabo San Lucas.
Together
Couples Travel
The Cape by Thompson or One&Only Palmilla for the honeymoon splurge; a private sunset cruise around El Arco is the obligatory couples move.
On Your Own
Solo Travel
Less common than Cancun for solo — but Cabo San Lucas town has a strong bar + hostel scene, plus surf schools in San José del Cabo attract solo travelers.
Food
What to Eat
- Marlin tacos. Cabo's big-fish signature — smoked marlin on corn tortillas with salsa fresca.
- Aguachile. Fresh shrimp cured in lime and green chili — Baja's answer to ceviche.
- Pescadillas. Fried fish quesadillas — Baja beach food at its most honest.
- Chocolate clams. Cabo's local Bahía Almejas mollusk — grilled or in a broth.
Transportation
Getting Around
Los Cabos airport (SJD) is 45 minutes from Cabo San Lucas town. Pre-book a shared or private transfer; the airport taxi mafia charges 3-4× the going rate.
The Corridor (highway between San José and Cabo San Lucas) is where most resorts sit. Rent a car for one day only if you want to explore Todos Santos or East Cape.
Where to Base Yourself
Neighborhoods
- Cabo San Lucas Marina. The party center — clubs, sport fishing charters, restaurants, sunset booze cruises.
- Medano Beach. The main swim beach — Nikki Beach, water sports, calm-water resorts.
- The Corridor. The 30km strip between Cabo San Lucas and San José — resort row.
- San José del Cabo. The quieter, artsy sister town — Thursday Art Walk, better local restaurants.
What to Know
Safety
Resort areas are very safe. Cabo San Lucas nightlife (Squid Roe, Cabo Wabo) has occasional bar fights and card-skimming — pay cash. Don't venture into non-tourist areas at night.
